Command and staff exercise that is conducted with students of the Army Tactical Level Command and Staff Course (L-2) continues at the University. Two-side exercise is run at the University's Simulation Center.
The subject of the exercise covers movement, defensive and offensive operations planning as well as C2 of the battalion tactical group units during their combat missions. The main focus of the department and the simulation center staff is modeling of combat operations using the JCATS simulation system.
The command and staff course's students work at both command and staff positions as well as at company, battery and platoon commander positions, which require officers to have some skills to perform the JCATS workstation operator duties. The Training Troops Automated Control System "Slavutych" is used to provide communication and control in addition to radio networks.
The simulation system helps to clearly identify issues that hadn't got enough attention during the operation planning. The two-side nature of the exercise brings additional challenge: the officers of the opposing parties do not plan to be defeated by their "opponent". According to the combat operations simulation results during the second stage of the exercise, the units advancing from the depths were unable to break through the enemy's defenses at the appointed time and were stopped at an unfavorable frontier.
The actions analysis taken after each stage of training allows students to avoid further inadequate decisions and take into account the maximum possible number of factors that affect the units' combat mission effectiveness.
The Head of the exercise, the University's departments and Simulation Center's mediators emphasize the high quality of all planned activities by the Army Tactical Level Command and Staff Course (L-2) students.
