24.12.2021

On December 24, nine officers-candidates for the L3 Leadership Course completed their four-week intensive training in the English-speaking group.

According to the requirements for achieving the Partnership Goals of the Annual National Program under the auspices of the NATO-Ukraine Commission for 2021 and “Roadmap for Improving Language Training in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (on 2021-2025)” approved on March 1, 2021 by the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, it is mandatory that, the English language proficiency for all university graduates must be at the SLP-1 (SMR-1) level. Furthermore, at least 10% of all taught disciplines are to be in English.

For the last two years the University has been conducting an experiment to teach officers-students at a Leadership Course L3, who previously obtained SMR-1 + level of English language proficiency, mostly in English.

In order to accelerate the integration of students into the English-speaking educational environment, teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Department of the Training and Research Center for Foreign Languages of the University developed and successfully implemented the "English Language Refreshment Course". Its strategic goal is to improve (update) English language communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing to the SLP-2 (SMR-2) level.

Experienced teachers of the Department, trained in European and Western military education institutions, managed not only to help students update their previous knowledge and skills, but also to prepare them to work with authentic doctrinal documents, NATO standards. The officers-students are learning how to lead discussions in English, express their critical thinking orally and in writing.

The results of the final testing showed the ability and readiness of all graduates of the "English Language Refreshment Course" to take the L-3 Course in English.
