The Department of Social Sciences

The Department of Social Sciences was founded on the basis of the Order of Minister of Defence of Ukraine № Д-322/1/03. Currently, the Department of Social Sciences is a basic structural division of Humanitarian Institute of National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhovskyi.
The Department provides training of professionals of operational-tactical level with degree of higher education «Master» in specialty 254 «Combat Service Support of Troops (Forces)», majoring in: «Organization of Psychological Support of Troops (Forces)», and in speciality 011 «Educational, Pedagogical Sciences» majoring in «Pedagogy of the Higher Military School». The Department of Social Sciences also participates in training of scientific and academic personnel (doctors of philosophy and doctors of science) and provides retraining and advanced training of scientific and academic personnel and professionals of foreign countries.
The educational process at the department is provided by five doctors of sciences and seven candidates of sciences.
The leading scientists of the Department of Social Sciences are Doctor of Psychological Sciences, professor Mykola Korolchuk, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor Andriy Vitchenko, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor Vasyl Yagupov, Ph.D., associate professor Lyudmyla Budagyants. Under the supervision of professor Mykola Korolchuk was founded and developed scholar school of psychological support of professional activities under usual and extreme conditions, 24 theses were defended, 5 monographs, 2 textbooks and 9 manuals approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine were published.
The scientific school of theoretical and methodological basics of military pedagogy, didactics and theory of education functions successfully at the department thanks to the fruitful work of professor Vasyl Yagupov. Under the supervision of professor more than 300 scientific works, three monographs, 12 textbooks, one textbook approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine were published and 31 theses were defended.
Professor Andriy Vitchenko substantiated and developed the scientific basics of pedagogy of the higher military school, military andragogy. Thanks to professor the system of training of lecturer of HMEI on the basis of competence and technological approaches was designed and also the model of interactive learning using case technologies was worked out.
The long-term, creative activity of associate professor Lyudmyla Budagyants promotes integration of the latest achievements of philosophy and methodology of military science, philosophy of democracy and philosophical anthropology into the educational process of training students and Phd students.
Academic and scientific personnel of the department participate in the work of specialized academic councils on thesis defense majoring in psychological sciences and pedagogical sciences.
The permanent academic seminar is functioning at the department, the scientific and practical conference devoted to issues of psychological support of militarymen in special conditions of activity is held annually. «The Journal of National Defence University of Ukraine» included in the list of professional editions approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the field of «Psychological Sciences» is published by the department.
Over a period of last five years academic and scientific personnel of the Department of Social Sciences study psychological, pedagogical and philosophical aspects of engagement of troops(forces) in practical work in the course of Joint Forces Operation. The department investigates the problems of military leadership, professional and psychological selection, psychological training of military personnel for combat operations, philosophy of politics, methods of teaching in higher military schools, pedagogical skills of the lecturer of the higher military school, military andragogy, image and oratory skills of the military leader, gender mentality in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
